Donor Advised Funds for Beginners - Set Your Team Up for Success!

Donor Advised Funds are impacting every capital campaign, gala, and fundraising campaign. However, it often feels like most of the discussions are intended for donors. Not sure if DAFs will live up to the hype? This discussion is created by fundraisers and for fundraisers. We'll discuss: Definitions, hard/soft credit, rules for events, success stories, common mistakes & concerns, 990/990EZ reporting, and a Q&A to answer specifics as they arise. This is especially useful for small teams.

Outcome: Attendees will be able to talk about DAFs with the correct nomenclature, how to report accurately, and how to ensure that events, marketing materials, and strategic plans are DAF friendly/accurate.

Featured Speaker

Chelsea is a DAF consultant based out of Seattle. She recently completed her MA at Johns Hopkins in Nonprofit Management and did extensive research on how development professionals are thinking about the DAF landscape. In August, she'll begin her PhilD at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. She coaches fundraisers on how to integrate DAFs into their strategic plans. She served two terms on the board of trustees for the Bellevue Schools Foundation, and recently presented at the Corporate Giving Network conference on Corporate DAFs. She believes strongly that the next era of fundraising will be DAF dependent and teams that adjust now will have the greatest opportunities to thrive.
