Guiding Your Organization by First Guiding Yourself
Burnout is a growing challenge for nonprofit leaders who constantly give of themselves. This session offers a practical path to sustainability by helping leaders align their work with their unique strengths, personal values, and mission. Through interactive reflection and discussion, participants will learn how to identify their natural strengths, define a personal set of core values, and draft a mission statement that guides daily decisions. They will also explore key reflective questions designed to help them "show up" with authenticity and clarity. Attendees will leave with a personalized framework - values list, mission statement draft, and self-coaching questions - that can be immediately applied to reduce stress, increase energy, and lead with greater impact.
Feature Speaker
Kate Portenier, CEFL
Kate Portenier spent over twenty years as a master's - level educator before leaving the classroom - but not the mission. Transitioning into nonprofit leadership as the sole employee of a new foundation, she quickly became overwhelmed and overworked. Through that struggle, she discovered the importance of leading herself first - identifying strengths, clarifying values, and crafting a personal mission. Having walked this path herself, Kate now equips leaders with practical tools to avoid burnout, gain clarity, and lead with authenticity.
